Researcher. Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra.

Biologist, PhD in Biology from the University of Porto. After several years of working in evolution and population genetics, and following some actions of science communication and non-formal science education that has been developing since 2009, in September 2016 begins a path dedicated to research in Science Communication and Non-formal Science Education. This research is carried out at the Centre for Social Studies (CES, University of Coimbra), in collaboration with the Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources – Research Network on Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (CIBIO-InBIO, University of Porto), the Federal University University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN, Brazil) and the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the active participation of the public in decisions on the rational use of natural resources, proposing the development of communication tools that emphasize the benefits of protecting and of the rational use of biodiversity on health, based on current research results in these topics and formats that favour the approximation between public and researchers.

He is also a founding member of the ‘Movimento Azul’ – Association for the Sciences of the Sea, Communication and Development and the Portuguese Association for Evolutionary Biology (APBE) and its Education and Dissemination Unit (NEDE-APBE). Participates in the Lagomorfos Genomics Consortium (LaGomiCs) and the International Associated Laboratory (LIA) “Biodiversity and Evolution”.
